Community Law Library

How does this library work?

The best way to work out how this library works is to have a go. Just type a word in the white box.

What are the three floors in this library?

The Community Law Library has three levels:

  • Know the Law (the blue level – legal information resources)
  • Teach the Law (the orange level – legal education resources)
  • Change the Law (the pink level – law reform resources)

Each level in the library contains many different kete (baskets). These kete are full of useful resources produced by Community Law.

If you want to see everything Community Law produces on a particular topic, don't select a level. If you're looking for a specific kind of resource (like a teaching resource), select the orange level: 'Teach the Law'.

Kete on the "KNOW" level contain legal information: answers to your legal questions. These answers might be short, or they might be part of longer information resources.

Kete on the "TEACH" level contain teaching resources. You can ask someone from your local community law centre to come to your community and teach you any of these topics. Or you can use these resources to teach yourself the law, or to teach others. You can download the whole kete, or pick and choose pieces out of it.

Kete on the "CHANGE" level contain resource produced by Community Law about areas of the law we want to change. You can search here to see what law centres around the country are saying about a particular Bill. You can use these resources to try and change the law yourself.

By providing legal education, information and law reform, Community Law tries to prevent legal problems from happening in the first place. If problems do arise, Community Law empowers you to solve your own legal problems before they become really serious. We work with you to stop the problem escalating – becoming harder and more expensive to solve.
