Mental Health

Where a person poses a serious risk of harm to themselves or others they may become subject to the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992. Once a person becomes subject to this Act there are a range of rights that they become entitled to. This section discusses these rights and also briefly overviews the law as it relates to incapacity due to mental illness generally. More detail on these rights can be found at either the Family Court or the Ministry of Health websites.
