About Us

This centre provides a full range of community legal services to the Porirua/Kapiti communities. Those needing urgent legal advice can obtain help by ringing the centre between 9am and 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4pm on Fridays.

The centre employs 4 lawyers fulltime to help those in the community with their legal problems. In addition to providing legal information, advice, assistance and education to the the community, the centre is also active in law reform and the production of "self help" legal resources. These resources include:

  2.     A Guide to applying for a Limited Licence
  3.     Maori Land - A Guide to Succession
  4.     An Easy Guide to the Harassment Act
  5.     An Easy Guide to the Disputes Tribunal
  6.     A Guide to Death, Funerals and Small Estates
  7.     A Legal Guide to Animal Care & Control
  8.     A Guide to Appointing a Partner as a Guardian.
  9.     A Guide to Responding to a Protection Order.
  10.     A Guide to Making Enduring Powers of Attorney

The centre can also provide limited legal representation for person facing criminal prosecution where legal aid is not available because of the nature of the offence. This service is dependant on available resources.
