Nga Ture Kaitiaki ki Waikato Community Law Centre Trust was formed in 1998. Our trust deed states the objects of providing legal advice, information, representation, assistance and education to "all people who live in New Zealand and: (a) With a particular emphasis towards those people who live within Te Puaha ki Manuka tribal region, i.e. Manukau City, Papakura and Franklin districts down to Mercer: and (b) Who for financial or other reasons do not have the resources or capacity to gain access to legal services other than those provided by the Nga Ture Kaitiaki Community Law Centre." We also make law reform submissions in response to the needs of our community.
Our office is currently based in Manukau City. We also run a weekly "legal clinic" in Pukekoke and participate with two other law centres in a further legal clinic at Clendon. The trust currently employs four full time solicitors and two administration staff. Our work is mainly in family, consumer, criminal, traffic, employment and Maori land law. We do not do legal aid work but seek to assist those who do not qualify for legal aid but cannot afford normal legal services.
We run a weekly legal information program on Radio Waatea (603 AM) on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:00 am. Please tune in!
Our office is open 9:00 am to 5:00 pm for people to drop in pick up a wide range of legal information pamphlets. To see one of our lawyers a prior appointment should be made by telephoning (09) 2622007.
