About Hutt Valley Community Law
About us
The Hutt Valley Community Law Centre is a Charitable trust.
Our vision is for access to justice for all people in the Hutt Valley , especially for those of with low incomes or with other significant barriers to accessing justice.
We aim to increase knowledge about legal rights and responsibilities and to promote self reliance and access to justice.
We provide free legal informatio, referrals, law related education and law reform to all people living in the Hutt Valley (Lower and Upper Hutt) and ongoing advice, assistance and representation to Hutt residents who are unable to afford their own solicitor, do not qualify for legal aid and are eligible for a community service card or have a low income.
Areas we can advise on:
- Consumer Problems,
- Social Welfare Benefits,
- Employment Agreements (where not a union member and no agent will assist) ,
- Immigration and Citizenship Problems (but not business or skill migrant categories) ,
- Tenancy and Housing,
- Bank Problems,
- Health Care Complaints,
- Insurance Disputes,
- Discrimination Matters
- Disputes Tribunal claims,
- ACC Matters,
- Swearing Affidavits and Witnessing Statutory Declarations,
- Privacy Matters,
- Complaints against Government Departments,
- Minor Criminal and Traffic Matters (depending on the complexity of the matter, the resources of the centre and the ability of the client to self advocate)
Areas we will provide referrals on:
- Buying and Selling Houses,
- Commercial legal work including leases,
- Preparing Wills and Administering Estates,
- Representing Clients in the Family Court who are eligible for Legal Aid),
- Acting in Disputes between Individuals (will provide general information),
- Matters covered by legal aid.
When and Where
Please phone (04) 566 0315 and you will be either assisted through a face to face appointment during a office clinic, or a appointment at a appropriate outreach clinic, or receive telephone advice either on Tuesday between 2-4pm or Thursday 2-4 pm.
Our clinics are held on
MONDAY 10-12 (General Law), 3-5 pm (Family Law),
TUESDAY 10-12 (Upper Hutt), 4-7 pm (Telephone Info-line),
WEDNESDAY 9.30-12.30 (Employment Law), 10-12 (Wainuiomata), 12-1 (Stokes Valley), 2.30-4.30 pm (Naenae),
THURSDAY 10-12 (Immigration), 3-6 pm (Financial Law Clinic).
